The Eternal Legend
The Eternal Legend is a solo performance combining excerpts from Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus with selected poems from L' Âme en bourgeon by Messiaen's mother, Cécile Sauvage. Both cycles explore the theme of the birth of a child, Messiaen himself or Jesus. However, in The Eternal Legend the listener is offered a different perspective on this theme through the bringing together of the transcendental atmosphere of Messiaen's music and Sauvage's earthly motherly love. The performance was arranged and performed by Monika Palsauskaite.
Frequencies
Frequencies is an interactive solo performance, combining excerpts from Olivier Messiaen's Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus and monologues by British playwright Howard Barker, exploring questions of truth and morality, and allowing the audience to experience the music through an entirely different lens of perception from the one that Messiaen anticipated. The performance was arranged and performed by me. The premier of Frequencies took place in Vilnius on 11th October 2020.
Visions of Messiaen
The Visions of Messiaen was a live performance of the Visions de l’Amen at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on 17 April 2024 by Professor Petras Geniušas and Monika Palsauskaite, enriched with quotations from Messiaen himself, selected and arranged by me from various primary sources to capture the change in the composer’s piano writing, combining both compositional periods, before and after meeting Yvonne Loriod, and as an individual, leaving childhood behind and entering adulthood after the death of his mother in 1927.
